Singing and Dancing

Judges 5 is a song of jubilation.  It is also known as the Song of Deborah & it seems from what I have read one of the oldest passages in the Bible. It’s a lovely song, full of happiness and strength recounting the story of victory of the people of God vs. hauteur of the enemy..  It tells of Sisera’s family looking and waiting for him…in vain and their sorrow.  It even gives mention to Jael and her slyness all which is beautifully rendered.   Here’s is a sample:

Blessed is she among women in tents.
25 He asked for water, she gave milk;
She brought out cream in a lordly bowl.
26 She stretched her hand to the tent peg,
Her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
She pounded Sisera, she pierced his head,
She split and struck through his temple.
27 At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still;
At her feet he sank, he fell;
Where he sank, there he fell dead. Judges 5:24-27

And the chapter ends on a happy note:  So the land had rest for forty years. Judges 5:31 and the people were happy.
