Founded by the Spanish in 1533, Cartagena, Colombia  is a   beautifully preserved colonial city that is housed  within 7 long  miles of massive stone fortifications— it has the honour of being the only walled city in South America. The city’s rich heritage draws from Spanish, African, and Indian roots, all on display in Old Cartagena, where centuries-old, boldly painted architecture flanks palm-shaded plazas.  In both painting and photograph you can see the church steeples grace over the tower, protectively.
