Babylonian God Nebo – Mercury

Babylonia had many gods, one of which was Nebo or Nabo. He was a prophet or herald and patron of scholars and the god of astrology. He was later picked up by the Ancient Greeks as Hermes and the Romans Mercury. He is in the Old Testament, but not as a god worshiped, but as a site where worshipers gathered in his name.

Britannica XI hints that Nebuchadnezzar of the Book of Daniel Fame, was named in his stead. Etymologically it seems to make sense, but none of that is academic research, as I am not a Babylonian scholar; still, it is a lead.
